Medicare has now been extended to cover psychologists

Medicare has been extended to cover people with an assessed mental disorder that is being managed by a GP under a GP Mental Health Care Plan or a psychiatrist assessment and management plan; or on direct referral by a psychiatrist or paediatrician from an eligible Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) service.

This includes people dealing with issues arising from:

• Acute psychotic disorders
• Adjustment disorder
• Alcohol use disorders
• Bereavement disorder
• Bipolar disorder
• Chronic psychotic disorders
• Conduct disorder
• Depression
• Dissociative (conversion) disorder
• Drug use disorders
• Eating disorders
• Enuresis (non-organic)
• Generalised anxiety disorder
• Hyperkinetic (attention deficit) disorder
• Mental disorder, not otherwise specified
• Mixed anxiety and depression
• Neurasthenia
• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
• Panic disorder
• Phobic disorder
• Post-traumatic stress disorder
• Schizophrenia
• Sexual disorders
• Sleep problems
• Unexplained somatic complaints

A GP Mental Health Care Plan involves the GP assessing the patient, identifying needs, setting and agreeing management goals, identifying any action to be taken by the patient, selecting appropriate treatment options and arrangements for ongoing management of the patient, and documenting this in the plan.

Our Fees
Standard fees:

Adults - A gap fee of $40.00 will apply upon presentation of a GP Mental Health Plan.

Children and Concession Card Holders - A gap fee of $20.00 will apply upon presentation of a GP Mental Health Plan.

Age and Disability Pensions - A gap fee of $20.00 will apply upon presentation of a GP Mental Health Plan.

Other Services

Our fees for other services such as family and relationship counselling are very competitive and we guarantee ongoing weekly appointments and quick access to our service. Please call our office to discuss our fee structure and your needs in relation to this type of counselling.

If you are a VOCAT client- there is no upfront fee.

Reports: fees depend on time of assessment and depth of report. As such, each report will vary in it's fee. Please contact us directly to disucss your needs.
